During a lecture hosted by the J-TIS, Dr. Chambers stressed that collecting data on medication safety during pregnancy is essential. She pointed out that pregnancy registries are crucial for gathering such information. However, based on her experience in the U.S., she also acknowledged the challenges of establishing individual registries and emphasized the need for a more streamlined approach moving forward.
In a conversation with Dr. Yamaguchi, Director of the J-TIS, Dr. Chambers discussed the outlook for international data sharing. She underscored that this approach could lead to more effective collection and utilization of information on medication safety during pregnancy.
During visits to the Pharmaceutical Safety Division, Pharmaceutical and Food Safety Bureau, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW), and the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA), recommendations emerged for establishing a command center at the Japan Drug Information Institute in Pregnancy, with administrative leadership playing a central role. This structure would support the smooth implementation of pregnancy registries in Japan.
